It seems our Country has gone absolutely mad. We have blatant lying, manipulation, back door deals and payoffs being received by our politicians on both sides. We have liberal progressive students and their professors, at many major universities, shouting down any opinion contrary to their own, and needing safe places where thy won’t get their feelings hurt. Is any of this God’s will? Then you have the lying media spinning every story to bring about a narrative that they want us to believe. Throw in the hateful and violent protests happening at some political rallies, and we start wondering if we have left the USA and entered into the Twilight Zone.
So, where is God in all this? Christians are under attack more and more while Islam is given a pass and celebrated by most politicians, college students and media hacks. They scream we must have the separation of church and state, yet defend the indefensible acts and customs of many Muslims, all this leaving many Christians to ask the question, where is God, and why is he allowing this to happen?
Well, I’d like to try and bring some clarity to this madness if possible. Although I understand the fear, uncertainty, hurt and frustration many Christians, including myself feel, I think we need to step back and try to understand just what is happening, and why.
I believe we need to start by asking, what is God’s will for mankind, and why is he allowing these things to happen?
When hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, and random senseless shootings occur, is it God’s will? Is He guilty of making it happen, or is He complicit for letting it happen? Is it God’s will when innocent people die during disasters, or at the hands of a madman? Is it God’s will that innocent babies are aborted, or that some children are abused, and others are born handicapped? Did God make it happen, or is He complicit in letting it happen?
Is it God’s fault our economy is built on a bubble that will probably implode sooner than later? Is it God’s fault that evil corrupt people run our Country? Is it God’s fault when a company fails and people lose their jobs and homes?
So many Christians wring their hands crying out why did God let this happen. Again, it seems God is guilty of either making something bad happen, or of letting it happen.
It doesn’t make sense to us why bad things happen to good people, so we have to find something or someone to blame so we can make sense of the situation. So if we believe in a loving God, it doesn’t make sense that He would let bad things happen, therefore if he let it happen. It’s God’s fault.
So, why didn’t God stop Islamist extremists from killing innocent people in San Bernadino, the night club in Orlando, or Paris or any other place? Why didn’t God stop the genocide in Darfur? Why doesn’t God stop all the wars, and crimes and evils that befall mankind? It’s a valid question with a very simple answer.
It’s because of a very special gift that God has given us. It’s a gift that puts a lot of power in our hands, but also requires a great deal of responsibility to wield. It’s the gift of freedom and free will.
It’s not God’s will that people suffer, or that bad things happen to good people; but if we are to be free to make good choices, we must also be free to make the bad ones.
Now, can God protect us from danger and harm? Absolutely! I believe He often does. But who God chooses to protect and when or why, only God knows; and it’s not our place to know. And of course, as we have systematically kicked God out of our Country, our government, our schools and public square, it boarders on the ridiculous to expect God to protect us as a nation anymore.
Look at what the wisest man who ever lived had to say about bad things happening to good people:
Ecclesiastes 9:10-12
10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going. 11 I returned and saw under the sun that – The race is not to the swift, Nor the battle to the strong, Nor bread to the wise, Nor riches to men of understanding, Nor favor to men of skill; But time and chance happen to them all. 12 For man also does not know his time: Like fish taken in a cruel net, Like birds caught in a snare, So the sons of men are snared in an evil time, When it falls suddenly upon them.
Some people ask, why did God let some man in Aurora Colorado shoot a lot of innocent people? God didn’t let him, the gunman chose to do that horrific act. If God stops someone like him, then God has taken away his free will. Without free will we would be automatons, and that isn’t what God created nor what he’s trying to bring about in mankind.
Look what Jesus said about innocent people becoming victims also.
Luke 13:1-5
13 There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2 And Jesus answered and said to them, “Do you suppose that these Galileans were worse sinners than all other Galileans, because they suffered such things? 3 I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish. 4 Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem? 5 I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.”
God has given us the precious gift of life, and the free will to determine how we will live that life. Unfortunately the down side to free will is that many will choose to do evil, and we stand the chance of falling prey to that evil. Of course if we are walking with God daily, and not just paying him lip service, there is a very good chance that God will protect us or at least keep us from suffering.
I don’t believe God makes bad things happen to good people, or that he is complicit because He doesn’t stop it. But I do believe, as I stated above, that as we continue to shut God out of our schools, our government, and our lives more Godless and heartless people will abound; and more and more evil will happen.
So what is God’s will?
Open your bible, and start reading. The Bible is filled with God’s will, and if you were to boil it down to its simplest terms, it is to love God with all your heart, soul, and strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself. It’s God’s will that we should have eternal life with Him, so even in this madness that is all around us, be of good cheer for if we are Christ’s we will have eternal life with him; and this insanity all around us will no longer have any effect on us.
